Like most churches, Protection Christian Church of Protection, Kansas started with a very humble beginning. The founders met in the home of Brother & Sister C.E. Bond. Those present starting in 1911 were: C.E. & Marie Bond, Clyde & Lynda Moore, A.W. & Mary Wollum, F.B. Field, Lovisa (Vie) Peacock, Mrs. M. Odem. The church soon organized and added 17 more members. After several short term preachers, in 1912 Brother R.H. Tanksley became the first full time minister. As commitments were made to the Lord, Baptisms were performed in the creek east of town, or in a stock tank in the open house where the large meetings were held. Sometimes they used the baptistery in Coldwater, Kansas. In 1913 a lot was bought from Dr. Ramey which was later exchanged for the present location of the church. Ground was broken in 1915 to begin construction on a new building. On Saturday, March 4th, 1916 the corner stone was laid. On Sunday, October 29th, 1916 the new church was dedicated by Dean Hazzard of Drake University. Built of brick, it was 2 stories with a balcony. A charter for the church was recorded in Coldwater and Topeka in 1956. In 1976, an annex was built south of the old church building providing extra Sunday School classrooms, a fellowship hall, kitchen, bathrooms, and a preachers study. In the fall of 1980 the old building was torn down after 64 years of service to the Lord Jesus Christ and community of Christians, to make room for the new sanctuary and classrooms that are presently standing. The annex and sanctuary were adjoined and the whole unit bricked. Dedication was held July 26, 1981. From the very first, the Lord's Supper has been observed weekly and the Word has been preached faithfully by the many ministers that have served through the years. Many Christians have contributed to the Church's growth by their witness of love, faith, prayers, and service. 100 years since the first beginnings of our church we are still going and growing strong with our Lord Jesus Christ. All praise and honor to God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit!
